The harbour district is one of the most exciting development areas in the Linz city area and is of the utmost importance for the Linz economic region. In order to secure the future of the location, LINZ AG presented a master plan in 2014 and launched the Neuland project. With the 3,600 m2 harbour park and the 28-metre-high observation tower, this also includes an attractive leisure offer for the general public.
With this major project, the entire area developed into a lively, urban meeting place of the public, leisure, business and industry.
"The simultaneous use as a business site on the one hand and as a public space with access to the water on the other is unique in Europe. These two separate levels give the Linz harbour its unmistakable character," says LINZ AG General Director DI Erich Haider, MBA.
Since September, 22nd 2023, we invite you to discover a unique project on the roof of the new pharmaceutical warehouse.
Stroll through planted beds, use playground equipment, a bouldering wall and rest areas, linger in the shade of trees and awnings. Visit the observation tower and enjoy the fantastic panoramic view over the port area and port operations.
On the roof of the 18-metre-high pharmaceutical hall, the new 3,600 m2 harbour park with playground equipment, bouldering wall, flower beds, trees and sun sails invites visitors to linger. This park is roughly the size of Linz's Schillerpark, and in the first stage of development it can be reached via a lift on the west side of the building. From here, an approximately 80-metre-long footbridge leads up to the 28-metre-high observation tower directly on the harbour basin. Here you can observe the hustle and bustle of the harbour area. You can also enjoy a magnificent view of Mural Harbor, one of the world's largest galleries for street art, and look across the Danube into the Mühlviertel.
The harbour park and the observation tower can be visited since Friday, 22 September 2023.
In operational terms, the electrification of the marshalling yard in the port and the container terminal as well as the expansion of both facilities are among the highlights. This now enables easier and faster operational handling. Furthermore, a second container gantry crane and - on a total area of about 10,000 m2 - a new special storage hall for frozen and pharmaceutical products were built. The deep-freeze warehouse is the second-highest fully automated high-bay warehouse in Europe.
Unique for a European port is the concept of the leisure axis that will lead into the port. In the final stage of development, a publicly accessible path will be created from the Posthof via the Industriezeile to the observation tower. Completion is planned for 2025. The newly designed harbour area can be easily reached by bus lines 27, 46, 70 and 72. If you are travelling to the harbour by car, it is best to park in the multi-storey car park with over 600 spaces, which was also newly built by LINZ AG.
